A black woman, Ebby LeBlanc and her husband dancing.

I’ve always seen moments like these play out in the movies and never imagined them happening in my own life. Yet here I am still smiling from ear to ear after walking into a room filled with family and friends yelling, “Surprise!”

My husband coordinated with my mom, gathered my closest friends, and actually pulled off a surprise birthday party for me. The best part? I didn’t have a single clue. My heart is so full. This was the best birthday ever. Check out the surprise below and be sure to subscribe to my channel. I have content coming soon!

Hello, 40! 💜

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
(Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NIV)

Community is God’s idea. He never intended for us to walk alone.

The enemy loves to whisper that we are unloved, forgotten, or taking up too much space. I’ve believed those lies before. That’s why this birthday meant so much more than balloons, cake, and decorations.

I honestly expected nothing more than a quiet dinner or brunch with a couple of friends. Instead, my husband orchestrated something beyond my imagination. My mom even flew in and coordinated everything behind my back! Family showed up. Friends I’ve known since 7th grade showed up. Friends I’ve only known for a year showed up. And each one of them holds a sacred place in my story.

What touched me most was realizing how God answered the prayers I prayed years ago. I asked for a husband who would be my best friend, and He gave me more than I dreamed. I asked for children when infertility told me otherwise, and now our babies fill the room with joy and noise. I asked for true community, and this party revealed what had been there all along.

Forty feels like the fruit of so many prayers. God has truly been faithful.

3 Things This Surprise Party Taught Me

  1. Family Is a Daily Prayer Answered
Every morning when I wake up in my home, I’m reminded of God’s goodness. Family isn’t perfect, but it’s a reflection of His promises fulfilled.
  2. Friends Are a God-Sent Lifeline
Some friends are seasoned, others are new. Both are necessary. God knows who you need in each season of life.
  3. Growth Is Worth Celebrating
Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have let myself be celebrated. I struggled with receiving love. Now, I’m grateful for the woman I’ve become and for the younger me who fought through the hardest decade of her life so I could walk into this new season full of joy.

Sis, let this be your reminder: allow yourself to receive love. Celebrate life even if it doesn’t look picture-perfect. Recognize the people God has placed around you. Step out of your comfort zone and ask for what you desire from Him and from those who love you.

Don’t wait until “someday” to celebrate. Joy is for now.
