If you’re struggling with fear, uncertainty, or doubt, this post will walk you through 5 powerful steps to embrace your calling with confidence. Plus, discover how journaling can help you move forward in faith!
My Faith Over Fear Story
A few years ago, I felt God calling me to start a ministry for women, but fear paralyzed me. I questioned whether I had the right words, the right skills, or even the right personality to lead. I’m an introverted, and I don’t like speaking in front of a crowd. Every time I sat down to plan, doubt crept in: “Who do you think you are?”
One night, after praying fervently, I opened my Bible and landed on 2 Timothy 1:7—”For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” God whispered to me that He never meant for me to do this alone.
So, I took a small step—I hosted my first “The Wait is Over” Workshop and it was a huge success. That small act of obedience turned into a thriving community, and today, I look back amazed at what God has done. Saying ‘yes’ to God changed everything.
If you’re standing at the edge of a calling and fear is whispering “no,” I want to encourage you—God’s strength is greater than your fear. Keep reading to discover how you can overcome fear and step boldly into His purpose for your life.
1. Acknowledge Your Fear but Don’t Let It Control You
Scripture: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear is a natural response to stepping into the unknown, but it’s not from God. The enemy wants to keep you stuck in self-doubt, but God has given you power, love, and a sound mind to walk boldly in your calling.
Solution: Identify the specific fears holding you back. Write them down in your journal and surrender them to God through prayer. Reflect on times He has been faithful before, and trust that He will guide you again. If you need a journal, check out the journal collection, HERE.
2. Trust in God’s Strength, Not Your Own
Scripture: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13
Many Christian women hesitate to follow their calling because they feel unprepared or inadequate. The good news? You don’t have to rely on your own strength! God will provide everything you need.
Solution: Write down areas where you feel weak or unqualified. Then, next to each one, list a scripture that reminds you of God’s strength. This exercise will renew your confidence and align your thoughts with His truth.
3. Take the First Step in Faith
Scripture: “We walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7
Waiting until you feel ready will only keep you stuck. Faith means stepping out before you see the full picture. When God calls you, He will make a way—even when it seems impossible.
Solution: Identify one small step you can take today toward your calling. Whether it’s starting a new ministry, writing your testimony, or reaching out to a mentor, take action and watch God move!
4. Surround Yourself with Faith-Filled Encouragement
Scripture: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Fear thrives in isolation, but faith grows in community. Surrounding yourself with godly women who encourage and uplift you will help you stay committed to your calling.
Solution: Join a Bible study, connect with a Christian mentor, or find an online community of faith-filled women. Keep a journal of encouraging words and testimonies to remind you of God’s faithfulness. Join the free Facebook Accountability Group to connect with like-minded women. JOIN HERE
5. Stay Committed Through Prayer and Journaling
Scripture: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16:3
Obedience to God’s call isn’t a one-time decision—it’s a daily commitment. Regular prayer and journaling will help you stay focused and confident in your journey.
Solution: Start a faith-over-fear journal where you record prayers, scriptures, and moments of breakthrough. Use it as a tool to see how God is leading you and reminding you of His promises. The Journey of Faith: Prayer and Dream Journal is perfect for this.
