“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” Genesis 50:20

Life has a way of overwhelming us, especially when we compare our journey to others. We see their blessings, their seemingly effortless successes, and their seemingly perfect lives, and we can’t help but wonder why our own path is filled with so many challenges and difficulties. In those moments, it’s important to remember that while we may see chaos, God sees purpose. He has a unique plan for us, and comparing ourselves to others only robs us of joy and fulfillment.

How Do We Find Hope and Meaning During the Struggle?

  1. See Beyond the Surface:
The temptation to compare ourselves to others is strong, especially when they appear to possess things we desire. Whether it’s the ease of starting a family, a seemingly perfect relationship, or career success, it’s vital to remember that what we see on the surface is only a fraction of the entire picture. We must resist the devil’s deception, understanding that our journey is unique and the blessings meant for us will come in due time.

2. Stop Comparing Our Lives to Others
Rather than measuring our lives against others, we should focus on personal growth and progress. Your only competition should be the person you were yesterday. The pursuit of becoming the best versions of ourselves should be our priority. Each day brings an opportunity to take a step forward, learn from our past mistakes, and embrace the valuable lessons life presents us. Comparing ourselves to others is both futile and detrimental, distorting our perception of what truly matters and hindering our appreciation for who God has called us to be.

3. Find Purpose in the Chaos:
It’s natural to feel discouraged when our prayers seem unanswered and challenges persist. However, it’s essential to trust that God’s ways are higher than ours. He sees the bigger picture and assigns purpose to everything that unfolds. Even in the midst of chaos, there is preparation taking place, propelling us toward our ultimate destination. Though we may not always know the why, we can have faith that God is ALWAYS working in our favor. Join the 5 Day Prayer Challenge to Dig deeper into the concept.

4. Embracing Faith and Hope:
When God doesn’t answer our prayers the way we hoped, and setbacks occur, holding onto our faith and hope in Jesus is crucial. We must remind ourselves that He never fails, even when circumstances seem bleak. Trusting in God’s plan enables us to surrender control and find solace in His guidance. Through faith, we can endure life’s storms, recognizing that they serve a purpose and that God is working behind the scenes for our ultimate good. Journey of Faith: Prayer and Dream Journal.

In a world consumed by comparisons and unrealistic expectations, it’s easy to lose sight of the purpose God has ordained for our lives. Let us resist the temptation to covet what belongs to others and instead focus on our personal growth and progress.

Remember, even in chaos, God is still in control.

Draw near to Him today, place your trust in Him, and embrace the journey, knowing that every challenge and triumph brings us closer to God and His Perfect plan for our lives.

Scriptures to Meditate ON:

  1. Romans 8:28 (NIV): “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This verse reminds us that even in the midst of pain and challenges, God can use them for our ultimate good and purpose.
  2. 2 Corinthians 1:4 (NIV): “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” Our own experiences of pain can equip us to bring comfort and support to others who may be going through similar situations, turning our pain into purpose through helping and serving others.
  3. Psalm 34:18 (NIV): “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” When we experience pain, God is near to us, providing comfort and healing. Our journey through pain can deepen our relationship with Him and allow us to experience His saving grace, which can become a powerful testimony of His faithfulness.
  4. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV): “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'” In our weaknesses and struggles, God’s power shines through. He can use our pain and limitations to demonstrate His strength and bring about His purposes, teaching us to rely on Him and showcasing His glory.
  5. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV): “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Even in the midst of pain, God has a purpose and a plan for our lives. He desires to bring us hope, restoration, and a future filled with His blessings. Trusting in His plans can help us find meaning and purpose in our pain, knowing that He is working all things together for our good.
  6. Isaiah 50:20 (NIV) “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”

When the Church Hurts: 10 Things NOT to Do After You’ve Been Wounded

I’ve gone back and forth on whether to write about this, partly because I’m still walking through it myself. Just last week, I made the difficult decision to leave my church of ten years. I won’t go into the details here; that’s a story for another day. What I will say is this: even…

Devotional: Picked Last but Chosen by God

I remember in Elementary school, during P.E., we’d have a team captain, and we’d all line up to be picked one by one. It was dreadful because you didn’t want to be last, but I almost always was. Sometimes, I’d be picked second to last, and I’d breathe a sigh of relief for that one…
