It’s Okay to Hold Both Pain and Joy

Life has a way of weaving the most unexpected emotions together. Joy and sorrow, celebration and mourning – they often walk hand in hand, creating a bittersweet melody that reminds us we are human.

Right now, I’m living in this tension. I’m celebrating the birth of one daughter while mourning the absence of my first daughter, Journey Faith. It doesn’t hurt any less, but I’ve learned to carry the pain differently. Life can be complicated like that. And sis, it’s absolutely normal to feel both deeply.

This season has taught me that embracing both the pain and the joy is not a contradiction. It’s an act of faith. It’s a reminder that God is present in every part of our story – the laughter, the tears, and the spaces in between.

The Beauty of Dual Emotions

We live in a world that often tells us to choose: be happy or be sad, be strong or feel weak. But scripture reminds us that our hearts are complex and resilient. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” There is room for both joy and grief in your story.

For me, navigating this season has meant leaning into God’s grace. It’s meant celebrating the gift of new life while acknowledging the ache of what’s missing. And in doing so, I’ve discovered a deeper trust in God’s ability to hold all of my emotions at once.

Workshop to Navigate This Season

This duality of emotions inspired me to create a space for women like us – a space to process, reflect, and grow. My upcoming workshop is designed to help you navigate your own seasons of tension. We’ll dive into the Word, share stories, and engage in journaling exercises to help you lean into both the pain and the joy. Mostly importantly, align with God.

The wait is over workshop

This isn’t about fixing or forcing you to move on. It’s about creating a community where it’s safe to feel and grow. Whether you’re mourning a loss, celebrating a victory, or somewhere in between, this is for you.

Journal Prompts for Reflection

Here are some prompts to help you navigate this season: You can also check out my journal collection HERE

  1. What emotions are you feeling right now? Write without judgment. “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” – Psalm 139:23
  2. Where have you seen God’s hand in both the joy and the pain? “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
  3. What does it look like to invite God into your complicated emotions? “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

You’re Not Alone

If this season feels overwhelming, know that you are not alone. God sees you, loves you, and holds every tear and every smile. Life’s contradictions are not too much for Him to handle. They are a canvas on which He paints His love and faithfulness. He can and He will meet you right where you are.

I invite you to join me in this journey of embracing both pain and joy. Let’s navigate this season together, trusting that God is working in every part of our story. You don’t have to do it alone.

Sign up for the workshop HERE, and let’s walk this road of faith and healing together.

  1. Great read for me, as this Christmas season surely, I’m feeling joy and pain. We buried my 3rd eldest sister on December 6th. She left us quickly and unexpectedly. In fact, I’m just coming out of a crying spell. The joy I’m experiencing is celebrating Christ’s coming to us, knowing my sister has a front-row seat up there with Him with now, and the memories of the unique ways she made this holiday fun and funny. Yup, my emotions are going in and out, up and down, but I thank God I can freely express them both and the Lord understands.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS! 🙂

    1. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m so glad you are allowing yourself to feel both joy and pain this holiday season. I pray God gives you peace that surpasses all understanding this season. Thank you for sharing this. 💜
