International Author Solomon Hall: Nonfiction, Self Help

“Introduction To Your Potential”

Author Solomon Hall proffers the elements for these positive changes, with his newest work, Introduction to Your Potential: Stage 1. Within this narrative, author Hall proposes the key nucleic ideals for employing distinctly enhanced changes to your psyche. The book’s chapters are artfully called “mind states” and each covers well drawn and illuminating elements like, Creating Positive Habits, Staying Focused, and Changing Your Mind.

Brief but succinct, this edifying self-help read, was thoroughly enjoyable. I found the author’s voice to be authoritative, congenial and motivating which made it easy to stay engaged within the book. His presentation of the central components of the book, not only motivates, but shows how to activate and perpetuate your latent potential making it so that readers no longer have to imagine the possibilities now you can make them a reality. I highly recommend this catalytic work it is a definitive must for everyone’s self-help library. Lisa Brown-Gilbert, Hollywood Book Reviews www.carolinaexecs.com/bookstore.html

Preparation DFWCON: The Manuscript

wp-1460536884295.jpg

The most important document you’ll bring with you beside the query letter, business cards, a positive attitude, and maybe the little extrovert hidden deep inside of you is your manuscript. If an agent happens to be interested, you’ll want to ensure you have polished it up real nice. Here are some sites that’ll aid you in the editing process as well as an editing excerpt from my upcoming “how to” book, “Finish that Manuscript You Started” Even if you aren’t attending a conference, these are great tools, especially if you need to polish your manuscript before sending it to an editor, which can potentially save money on editing cost too.

Preparation DFWCON: The Query

One of the most important aspects of attending a conference of any sort is being prepared. Yesterday we covered The Pitch. Today, we’ll cover the query letter. From what I learned thus far, it should be to the point, and to remember you are selling your manuscript. I found some sites that aid in writing the query letter, while giving examples. Feel free to add more suggestions  or sites recommendations in the comments. Tomorrow, we’ll discuss the manuscript.

WOMEN AUTHORS SPOTLIGHT: Monica Ali

I was browsing through Blockbuster one evening, yes, I said Blockbuster and I came across the movie, Brick Lane. I tend to enjoy movies that are unheard of, limited release, or film festival etc. I loved the story of Brick Lane so much that I purchased it. I didn’t know until years later that it was a debut novel by Monica Ali, a Bangladeshi-born British writer. It centers on life of Nazneen, a Bangladeshi woman, who moved to London due to an arrange marriage to a much older man named, Chanu. The novel is about Nazneen’s adaptation to the new community, and discovering herself beyond the role of a wife and homemaker. This is my first time reading the novel and so far so good as expected, since novels tend to be far better than the movie.

Are you familiar with Monica Ali? Have you read Brick Lane? Any suggestions on my next read from her?
