CALLING ALL AUTHORS

HEllO! The Writer’s conference over the weekend went well. An agent requested my entire manuscript!!! I’m making some last minute tweeks before I submit. So, I’m extending the author spotlight deadline to this Sunday May 1 for those, who still want to be apart. Email your info at ebbyslane@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing about you and your work. : )

I’m creating a post that will showcase fellow authors. Send a brief description of your work including genre with a link to either your website or social media page to ebbyslane@gmail.com to be included in the post.  Don’t worry there’s no catch, just one author supporting another. : ) Deadline is Sunday April 24, 2016 to be included.

Preparation DFWCON: The Experience

The hardest part of attending a conference is stepping out of my introvert comfort zone and being in the midst of a crowd of strangers. Yet, there is a rush I cannot describe that accompanies doing something I’ve never done before. I plan to walk in there with my head held high, which isn’t very high since I’m a short person, but that’s beside the point…. I’m going to walk in there with confidence and soak up every ounce of the experience. Though pitching my novel to an agent is a huge opportunity, I don’t want it to be the sole focus of this event and miss the other great aspects. I’ll be learning new skills that I’ll surely blog about in the near future, I’ll be meeting many likeminded people and who knows, I may leave there with new lifelong friends. So, my advice, whatever new thing you’re doing this week, this month or this year, soak in every aspect of the moment.

DFWCON.org  provides more tips on how to make the most of your experience at the writer’s conference.

Preparation DFWCON: The Manuscript

The most important document you’ll bring with you beside the query letter, business cards, a positive attitude, and maybe the little extrovert hidden deep inside of you is your manuscript. If an agent happens to be interested, you’ll want to ensure you have polished it up real nice. Here are some sites that’ll aid you in the editing process as well as an editing excerpt from my upcoming “how to” book, “Finish that Manuscript You Started” Even if you aren’t attending a conference, these are great tools, especially if you need to polish your manuscript before sending it to an editor, which can potentially save money on editing cost too.

Preparation DFWCON: The Query

One of the most important aspects of attending a conference of any sort is being prepared. Yesterday we covered The Pitch. Today, we’ll cover the query letter. From what I learned thus far, it should be to the point, and to remember you are selling your manuscript. I found some sites that aid in writing the query letter, while giving examples. Feel free to add more suggestions  or sites recommendations in the comments. Tomorrow, we’ll discuss the manuscript.
