I was browsing through Blockbuster one evening, yes, I said Blockbuster and I came across the movie, Brick Lane. I tend to enjoy movies that are unheard of, limited release, or film festival etc. I loved the story of Brick Lane so much that I purchased it. I didn’t know until years later that it was a debut novel by Monica Ali, a Bangladeshi-born British writer. It centers on life of Nazneen, a Bangladeshi woman, who moved to London due to an arrange marriage to a much older man named, Chanu. The novel is about Nazneen’s adaptation to the new community, and discovering herself beyond the role of a wife and homemaker. This is my first time reading the novel and so far so good as expected, since novels tend to be far better than the movie.

Are you familiar with Monica Ali? Have you read Brick Lane? Any suggestions on my next read from her?
