WEEK ONE: What’s your one thing?

I know, I promised a series of dating posts after the successful post, Dating: The Issue, The Message, The Solution. Thank you all who took the time to read it and contribute to it!  However, I’d like to push the topic of dating aside and focus on something that is far more important, SELF-ESTEEM.

I know women who are gorgeous, but when I talk to them I’m shocked they are battling with low-self-esteem and self-image.  At first glance, it is hard to believe because many of them exude confidence. I realized that there is a common trend. A lot of women that seem confident, snapping daily selfies, and consistently appearing “put together” with their hair and makeup always on fleek….wait, I tried. I just can’t get on board with using that word. You get the point, though. Many of these same women struggle the most with low self-esteem. Now, I’m not saying posting a selfie automatically affirms self-esteem issues, but it in no way negates they don’t exist, something I originally assumed.

The next seven weeks are dedicated to learning to love ourselves daily and making a point to embrace who we are as a whole. Raising your self-esteem and self-image begins within. Yes, we all need affirmation at times and perhaps that’s the reason for the selfies, not always. However, if we allow another’s affirmation to be our center, we will never truly learn to love ourselves and be our best self. Will you take this journey with me?  Here’s a scripture to ponder while we take this journey together, Psalms 139: 14 NKJV “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”

This week’s challenge, find one attribute daily that you love about yourself and flaunt it (focus on it). – There is something about you that you love to the point that you don’t need affirming to feel great about it. Whether it is your body-type, hair, eyes, skin, personality, voice, talent, you name it, focus on those this week. Write it on a sticky note and post it on your mirror to remind yourself daily. (I love my hair, I love my personality, I love my positivity, I love my voice, etc.) My one thing today is I absolutely love and embrace my curves. No matter how much weight I gain or lose, it is the one thing I am confident about when it comes to my body.
