Journey To Loving Me, Daily: WEEK THREE: REBUILD

WEEK THREE: REBUILD

“When you can stand in the mirror, look deep into your own reflection and realize that the physical doesn’t define, the mental doesn’t define; nothing on earth can define. It is when you look beyond yourself, into your Creator that you will arrive at the realization….” – Sage Devin Tucker, character from the novel,  “My Name Is Sage “

I finally went to see the movie, War Room, which was amazingly life-changing by the way. If you’ve seen it, you understand my enthusiasm for this week’s challenge. Last week, we de-cluttered…literally.  This week, we will focus on our personal relationship with God. After all, He is where our opinions of ourselves should derive. Self-Esteem and self-image reverts back to knowing who we are in Christ, through Christ and with Christ. Do you realize when we question ourselves, our appearance, we are questioning God’s perfect creation? Do you really think He made a mistake when he made your hair that way, painted your skin that color, shaped your body like the perfect piece of clay that is you? I don’t think so. When we see ourselves in Christ, nobody can tell us different. Psalms 139: 14 NKJV “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”

This week’s challenge: Rebuild from the inside by renewing our mind.

  1. Find a spot in your home, away from everyone else. (War Room).
  2. Make a point to wake up a few minutes earlier than everyone, especially if you have a family: pray, meditate, read your bible or if you keep a journal like me, write. (If you can only do one or two days this week, that’s perfectly fine).
  3. Do you still have those sticky notes on the mirror? You should : ) Write a letter to yourself, stating everything you like about you. Don’t like to write, make a list instead. Keep that list or letter with you, and make a point to read it during your private time.

Remember, a little goes a long way in this journey. #LovingMeDailyRenewingmymind

Journey to Loving Me, Daily: WEEK TWO

WEEK TWO: DE-CLUTTER… LITERALLY

I don’t know about you, but I am one of those people that have a difficult time letting go of old things. I have this fear of needing it later. A close friend of mine reminded me that when we let go of old things we are merely making room for new ones. Last week, we focused on one attribute daily that we love about ourselves. This week will focus on removing things that are interfering with our positivity. This includes people. Did you know the company you keep, including the men you date, all could be expelling negative energy into your life? It can distract you from seeing yourself in a positive light. This week, let’s remove those things/people that could be aiding in our negative self-image. And yes, I used a picture of Bernadine from the movie, Waiting to Exhale. Hopefully, no one will be de-cluttering in that way.

This week’s challenge, free yourself of things/people that do not add to your positivity.

  1. First, PRAY before you implement any of these changes.
  2. Go through your closet and get rid of all the clothes that no longer compliment you and/or you don’t feel great about.
  3. Let go or take a break from that dude that you are questioning in your life.
  4. Distance yourself from that friend/ acquaintance that is draining you. Because, every relationship should be symbiotic, where you get as much positive energy from them as you are giving.
  5. Stay clear, if you can, of that coworker or person whom you feel you have to walk on eggshells around.
  6. In addition, let’s rid ourselves of those negative thoughts. When you think a negative thought, provide yourself with three positive attributes (sticky notes) to counter it.

To reiterate, please, please PRAY before you make any of these changes. In addition, do not overwhelm yourself trying to implement all these changes at once.  For example, only get rid of a few items at a time in your closet. A little really does go a long way. Remember, this is a journey.

Do a double positive and donate those clothes you removed from your closet to a local charity and/or battered women’s shelter. Post a pic of those piles of clothes. Use #LovingMeDailyDeclutter

Journey to Loving ME, Daily: WEEK ONE

WEEK ONE: What’s your one thing?

I know, I promised a series of dating posts after the successful post, Dating: The Issue, The Message, The Solution. Thank you all who took the time to read it and contribute to it!  However, I’d like to push the topic of dating aside and focus on something that is far more important, SELF-ESTEEM.

I know women who are gorgeous, but when I talk to them I’m shocked they are battling with low-self-esteem and self-image.  At first glance, it is hard to believe because many of them exude confidence. I realized that there is a common trend. A lot of women that seem confident, snapping daily selfies, and consistently appearing “put together” with their hair and makeup always on fleek….wait, I tried. I just can’t get on board with using that word. You get the point, though. Many of these same women struggle the most with low self-esteem. Now, I’m not saying posting a selfie automatically affirms self-esteem issues, but it in no way negates they don’t exist, something I originally assumed.

The next seven weeks are dedicated to learning to love ourselves daily and making a point to embrace who we are as a whole. Raising your self-esteem and self-image begins within. Yes, we all need affirmation at times and perhaps that’s the reason for the selfies, not always. However, if we allow another’s affirmation to be our center, we will never truly learn to love ourselves and be our best self. Will you take this journey with me?  Here’s a scripture to ponder while we take this journey together, Psalms 139: 14 NKJV “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”

This week’s challenge, find one attribute daily that you love about yourself and flaunt it (focus on it). – There is something about you that you love to the point that you don’t need affirming to feel great about it. Whether it is your body-type, hair, eyes, skin, personality, voice, talent, you name it, focus on those this week. Write it on a sticky note and post it on your mirror to remind yourself daily. (I love my hair, I love my personality, I love my positivity, I love my voice, etc.) My one thing today is I absolutely love and embrace my curves. No matter how much weight I gain or lose, it is the one thing I am confident about when it comes to my body.
